Number one responsibility to “watch the water” and those in it. Additional responsibilities included patrolling the beach and ocean areas from an assigned lifeguard tower, patrol vehicle or vessel and perform rescue and accident prevention activities at the beach in an open water environment. Further responsibilities included providing technical direction to lifeguard trainees in an assigned beach area and perform special division activities, such as dispatching, office coordinator, and instructing in lifeguarding techniques.
